Replit is the agentic software creation platform that enables anyone to build applications using natural language. Replit is democratizing software development by removing traditional barriers to application creation.
Replit was founded in 2016 by Amjad Masad, Haya Odeh, and Faris Masad, based on the observation that setting up a local development environment, meaning installing and configuring the languages, tools, and dependencies needed to write and run code for a given project, has historically been a significant barrier to entry for new programmers and a persistent source of friction for experienced developers working across multiple projects and languages. Masad learned to code in Jordanian internet cafés on borrowed machines with unstable connections, an experience that became the product thesis: if setup is the barrier, remove setup entirely. The result was a fully browser-based coding environment supporting a wide range of programming languages with nothing installed locally. Techbuzz Replit's platform provides an entirely cloud-hosted development environment accessible through any browser, letting users write code, immediately run and test it, and share and collaborate on projects, functionality that proved particularly valuable for coding education, where instructors could avoid the friction of configuring every student's individual machine before instruction could begin. The company has evolved significantly with generative AI, launching Replit Agent and related features that let users describe an application in natural language and have Replit generate substantial working code and application structure, placing it in the fast-growing AI app builder or "vibe coding" category. Its differentiation is an end-to-end approach, bundling hosting, deployment, and collaboration with the AI agent so users never leave the platform, serving both traditional developers wanting AI-assisted help and non-technical users building functional applications without programming expertise. Clay Replit raised a $400 million Series D in March 2026 at a reported $9 billion valuation, led by existing investor Georgian Partners with participation from G Squared, Prysm Capital, Coatue, Andreessen Horowitz, Craft Ventures, Y Combinator, Accenture Ventures, Okta Ventures, and Databricks Ventures, following the $250 million round in September 2025 that set a reported $3 billion mark. Reported revenue reached $240 million for full-year 2025, up from roughly $10 million in ARR at the end of 2024, with a reported 150,000-plus paying customers and use at 85% of Fortune 500 companies. Replit competes with other AI-assisted development platforms including Lovable, Cursor-maker Anysphere, Bolt, and Vercel's v0 in an increasingly crowded category. In Augment's Q2 2026 Power 20 rankings, Replit [ranked/moved to] #18, with its estimated secondary-market share price [changing X%] during the quarter [+ bid-ask spread and platform trading activity].
