Canva was founded in 2013 by Melanie Perkins, Cliff Obrecht, and Cameron Adams, based on the founders' observation that professional graphic design software had historically been complex and difficult for non-designers to use effectively, motivating the creation of a much more accessible, template-driven design platform that lets everyday users, small business owners, students, and marketing teams without formal design training create polished visual content, including presentations, social media graphics, marketing materials, and documents, using a largely drag-and-drop interface and a very large library of pre-built templates, design elements, and stock photography. Canva has expanded significantly beyond its original individual design tool into a broader visual communication platform for teams and businesses, including collaborative editing features, brand management tools that help organizations maintain design consistency across their marketing materials, and increasingly, generative AI features that let users create and edit images and other visual content directly within the platform using text prompts, positioning Canva to compete not only with traditional design software but increasingly with the growing wave of AI-native content creation tools. Canva's 2025 revenue reached approximately $4 billion, up 33% year over year, reflecting continued strong growth in both its free and paid subscription tiers across individual and enterprise customers. In Augment's Q2 2026 Power 20 rankings, Canva rose two positions to #13, though the ranking noted this advance was driven largely by the departure of three other companies from the Power 20 that quarter rather than by Canva's own market momentum, since its trading activity on the Augment platform fell 33.3% during the quarter, ranking last among all Power 20 companies on that measure, while its estimated secondary-market share price declined 5.9%, the largest price decline of any company in the rankings that quarter, and its bid-ask spread was the widest in the Power 20.
