Crusoe operates mobile modular data centers intended to eliminate routine flaring of natural gas and reduce the cost of cloud computing.
Crusoe was founded in 2018 by Chase Lochmiller and Cully Cavness, originally built around the idea of capturing otherwise-wasted natural gas that would typically be flared, or burned off, at oil drilling sites, and using it to generate electricity powering mobile data centers, a model the founders argued could reduce both the emissions associated with gas flaring and the cost of computing power, before the company's focus expanded and shifted substantially toward building large-scale data center infrastructure specifically optimized for AI training and inference workloads as demand for AI computing capacity accelerated dramatically industry-wide. Crusoe has positioned its energy-efficient approach to data center design and power sourcing as an increasingly relevant differentiator as the AI industry has confronted growing constraints on both the availability of electricity and the physical data center capacity needed to train and run increasingly large AI models, building large data center campuses in partnership with major cloud providers and AI labs seeking additional computing capacity beyond what the largest incumbent cloud providers alone can supply. The company's 2025 revenue reached approximately $500 million, described as the company's own projected figure for that year, with growth of approximately 81% year over year. In Augment's Q2 2026 Power 20 rankings, Crusoe recorded the largest rank advance of any company in the quarter, rising six positions to #11, driven by its estimated secondary-market share price increasing 54.6% during the quarter, the fourth-largest price gain among all Power 20 companies, alongside an 88.5% increase in trading activity on the Augment platform, reflecting strong and rapidly building investor interest in the company's energy-efficient approach to AI infrastructure.
